Greetings!

We are so excited to celebrate the arts in Flagstaff and announce the recipients of the first annual Viola Awards Thursday night.  The Gala event at the Radisson has sold out!  Our deepest and sincerest thanks go out to everyone in the community who has supported this program.

If you haven't secured tickets to the event, you can still find out who is going home with a Viola Award that night.  Follow us on Twitter for real-time updates live from the March 5 event, or become a fan of our Facebook page and we'll update everyone later that evening with the full list of recipients.

Also, check out the folks who have made the Viola Awards possible at the bottom of this newsletter.

Cheers,

John Tannous "JT"

Artist Profile: Janeece Henes

As part of our annual celebration of Youth Art Month, Jillian Asplund sat down with art educator, Janeece Henes, to discuss her perspective on art in education.  Henes, a recent nominee for a Viola Award for Arts Educator, is a high school teacher at the Flagstaff Arts and Leadership Academy.  Here's an excerpt from the article:

JA: What are your earliest memories of making art?

JH: Kindergarten. Remember those hand plaster pieces? Or the hand-drawn plates? My mother was very crafty, she sewed our clothes, costumes etc...I would have to say that going to an all girls catholic high school in Philadelphia, the art classroom was my sanctuary. If I didn't have the art room to express myself I would have gone mad.
