Flagstaff Cultural Partners

Greetings!

At this time of year, I know that you receive a lot of requests for support and year-end donations.  And I know that the last thing you are looking for, in a newsletter like this, is a long-winded message from me about how much we need your support.  So let me keep this short.

We do indeed need your help - now more than ever.

Please make a contribution today to support the efforts of Flagstaff Cultural PartnersClick here to donate now online.  Your contribution is tax deductible.

Your donation provides essential support for programs like the Viola Awards, First Friday ArtWalk, concerts and art exhibitions at the Coconino Center for the Arts, and many quality programs.  Click here to learn more about FCP's impact.

We simply cannot do it without you.  Please take a moment to support our efforts.  Thank you!

Cheers,

John Tannous "JT"
Executive Director

ps. When you make a contribution, you are invited to our special, advance preview of the It's Elemental exhibition on November 19!

The FCP Staff Top Five: Music

The topic for November's FCP Staff Top Five list is:

This includes, of course, more than what is playing on our speakers right this very second. These are the bands that we have been and are listening to (now and in the last month) here in the Batcave-like offices at FCP. There was quite a bit of discussion on this topic ... including Jill's uncanny love of polka, Joe's over-use of the word "bomb" to describe music he likes, and April's worry that people reading this will think we're trying to be "hipsters." Whatever those are.

The Heartless BastardsAnyhow, everyone had a few unique groups on their own personal lists, so we've decided to include each staff members' individual lists in the Culture Club. But for our Staff Top Five purposes, we mashed our lists together and came to mostly agree on these:

The Heartless Bastards (pictured)
It was a challenge to get five names on this list that we could all agree on.  We definitely like some of the same music, but our tastes do vary quite a bit.  So you can see the list of all music we are listening to individually:  click here to read the full article and see all the lists.

Arts Funding in Jeopardy
Following a 54% cut in the Arizona Commission on the Arts' (ACA) state appropriation, a $10 million sweep of funds from the Arizona ArtShare endowment and lower returns from the Arizona Arts Trust Fund because of the economic downturn, ACA staff has responded to a directive from Governor Jan Brewer to all state agencies to find ways to slash 15% from its budget for fiscal year 2010 on top of the 40% reductions already made to ACA grants in this current year.  Click here to find out more.

Support Local Art!
The holidays are rapidly approaching, which means many of you are thinking about gathering together with family and friends, giving gifts, and (hopefully) giving back to your community. Each year, we like to remind you that when you are out shopping for the holidays, your purchases have abig impact on the local economy. Every dollar you spend is a vote to support a business.

As the holiday season approaches, you'll likely do a little spending (or a lot) for your loved ones. We ask you to remember that every dollar you spend is a VOTE. Do you want to vote for local artists and locally-owned galleries by purchasing fine arts and crafts? Do you want to give one-of-a-kind gifts that are handmade? The kind of gift that can't be mass-produced, that represents where you live? (hint: the answer is YES!)

If so, look no further than the ArtWalk map, where you'll find a listing of galleries and businesses that showcase the finest local arts and fine crafts. THIS is the place to find the best in gifts. When you shop here, you support your LOCAL economy, local artists and the people who make Flagstaff such a great community.  Click for the November ArtWalk Guide.
